After seeing the first trailer

Prime Video has just dropped the first trailer for “We Was Liars”, and if you were near Tumblr or Boktok in the past decade, you already know that this has a grip on people.

E. Lockhart's best -selling novel, thanks to its urgent prose, a curvy act and ending, did not become anyone who came nobody. Now the TV June 18th.

“We were liars” follows a wealthy family who spends their summer on a private island on which a group of teenagers gets tangled in secrets, love and a shocking secret that changes everything. Even the premise alone convinced me to add it to my observation list.

Pay attention

Emily Alyn Lind takes on the role of Cadence Sinclair, the main character and narrator of history. At first everything looks like a dreamy summer escape (think that the Vibes “The Summer, I got pretty”), but it doesn't take long for things to turn into something darker and less conscious.

Lockhart's novel was released in 2014 and soon became a favorite among teen readers. He earned him a place in the New York Times YA bestseller list for more than 40 weeks.

Fans of the book already know what to expect. The story is slowly building up, with memorabilia and emotions that slide through the cracks. This trailer gives just enough to stir this familiar feeling: a golden summer, the pretty people with perfect life and this strange feeling that something is wrong.

Whether you have read it or not, it looks like the show could assert us all the way.

Together with the trailer and the publication date, Prime Video also published an official summary: “On the basis of E. Lockhart's bestseller novel, the series was followed by Cadence Sinclair Eastman and her close-meshed inner circle, who has the nickname of the liar of the liars at the New England Privat island of her grandfather.

“The Sinclairs are American kings – known for their good looks, their old money and their enviable binding – but after a mysterious accident changes the life of Cadence forever, everyone, including their beloved liars, seems to have to hide something.”

From June 18, 2025, the entire eight-episode limited series will only be available for Prime video and will be accessible in over 240 countries and regions.

Lind plays as Cadence Sinclair with Shubham Maheshwari Gat, Esther McGregor as Mirren Sinclair and Joseph Zada, who portrays Johnny Sinclair. The adult cast includes Caitlin Fitzgerald as Penny Sinclair, Mamie Gummer as Carrie Sinclair, Candice King as Bess Sinclair, Rahul Kohli as Ed and David Morse as Harris Sinclair.

“We as Liars” is written and leading executive, which is produced by co-showrunners Julie Pleec and Carina Adly Mackenzie. Emily Cummins, Brett Matthews, Pascal Verchooris and the Author E. Lockhart also act as Executive Producers for the series.

PLEC will also adapt the Prequel novel, which immerse yourself in the hidden history of another generation of the Sinclair family. In a recent interview with Deadline, she teased that there are already plans for a potential second season that could explore more of the plot of the Liar's family:

“I think the fans of the book will be very, very happy, because I think we hit all brands and all beats that the book does and then expand the universe.

“Layers on layers to really nuanced the adult characters and make really complex and to set the stage for the second season, which in the theoretically also includes us deeper into the life of the moms and will add another generation to history.”

For those who have not yet read the book, they are not trying to search further details online. The turns and twists in “We were liar” best experienced without knowing what's coming. If you are curious, it is definitely worth going blind to the show because discovering the mystery together with the characters is half the fun.

With a terrifying new trailer that teases many dark secrets and emotional twists, “We were liar” develops into a must in the next month, and I know that I have already added it to my observation list.
