Mads Mikkelsen to play Death Row Chef in “Last Meals”

In addition to Boyd Holbrook in “Last Meals”, the Oscar-Nominee Ramin Bahrani (“The White Tiger”, “99 Homes”), the Oscar-Nominee Ramin, will now get a handle under control.

Hanway Films went on board the competitive project, which was first announced in 2022, and will sell in Cannes. Uta Independent Film Group and Senter Entertainment will handle North American sales.

The prison drama, which is to start the main photography in Ireland later this year, comes from Justin Piasecki (“Relay”), which was awarded the Ampas Nicholl, in which the ideas of guilt, death penalty and redemption, all the lens of the food of the highest order, and the most famous food in the world were researched.

“Last meals” will play Palme d'Or -winner Mikkelsen (“Another Round”, “Casino Royale,” The Hunt “) Walter Karat, a former chef in the White House, whose fall by Grace ends in the kitchen of a maximum security prison for the death line for parts of the dead. Step and step thwarted.

“Every now and then a story comes in your direction in which you can present it instead of weaknesses that completely immerse yourself in his characters and a tone,” said Mikkelsen. “A story that manages to judge and at the same time feel how we feel like judges. A story full of recognizable, normal people in situations that are anything but normal. Lost dreams, hope, redemption and great love for the unexpected. 'Last meals' is such a story. In combination with a dream team of producers, actors and ramin in the center, I could no longer work.”

Emmy and Golden Globe Nominee RenĂ©e Tab (“Sound of Freedom”, “Cosmopolis”, “Maps to the Stars”) packed the film and are produced for sensitive entertainment. Christopher Tuffin (“Alphas”, “Freelance”) by Strong Island will also produce.

The executing producers include Charles Porter by Black Bench Productions, Kelly Price from Selige from above, Karan Hoss from Hoss Productions and Jeeny and Michael Miller by Miller Way. Mickkelsen, Bahrani, Piasecki and Holbrook are also executive production. In the name of Brick Lane with Todd Slater and Brandon Evans, the Santiler has come together, which is acted as a production service company in Ireland. Ari Novak will monitor production. The main photography begins in Dublin in autumn.

“Justin's script took me with his emotional and exciting storytelling,” said Bahrani, Oscar-nominated for the best adapted script in 2021 for “The White Tiger”. “I have never seen a film about a prison cook – this unique premise was only the beginning. It also gives me the opportunity to finally work with the brilliant Mads Mikkelsen, the ability of which to give every role the soul and complexity is unsurpassed.”

“Last meals” is a visceral, multi-sensory experience-a deeply human history, the joy, suffering and our complex relationship with food as food and control, “said Tab.” Against the judicial system, it is a timely and subversive meditation about dignity and resistance. Through the extraordinary vision and passion of Ramin, Mads, Justin and Boyd brought to life – with Echoes the Shawshank solution – the result is a powerful, intimate film that wanes long after the final. “

“Last meals” was first unveiled with Delroy Lindo to Star and the British filmmaker Adeewale Akinnuoye Agbaje on board directed in 2022. Samuel Jackson later headed the leading role and Andrew Levitas.

“This is an award -winning screenplay that has finally found the right creative team to make all his promise,” said Gabrielle Stewart, CEO Hanway Films. “Ramin and Mads brought their own imprint into history and we couldn't be thrilled to start them in Cannes.”
