911 calls after men and dogs were killed in Bären attack in Florida – NBC 6 Südflorida

Newly published 911 calls conquered for help after an 89-year-old man and his dog were killed by a bear in the southwest of Florida.

Robert Markel was discovered dead with his dog in his house near the community of Jerome in Collier County after the authorities were called shortly after 7 a.m. Monday, said the spokesman for the fish and wildlife protection commission, George Reynaud,.

In the 911 calls, a dispatcher asked a caller whether Markel had run away from the bear.

Dispatcher: “Do you think he may have run in front of the bear?”

Caller: “He is 89, he can't run. He can't even go without falling over.”

The caller also told the dispatcher: “I draw my clothes and take my weapon and will search for this bear.”

Officials said that Markel and his dog were found in various areas within a few hundred miles.

Since then, wildlife officers said they killed three black bears.

DNA samples from these three bears were sent to a laboratory for testing
