Geers plea during the crash, in which the Golden Officer was rebuilt until June 23rd

The professor of Colorado School of Mines because of the death of the Golden Police Evan Dunn was initiated on June 23, as law enforcement and defense continue the negotiations.

Stephen Geer, 43, was charged with vehicle murder and vehicle handle after he was supposed to go to the place of a traffic accident on Highway 58 on November 6th and hit four people.

Dunn, 33, died at the scene.

The GPD officer Bethany Gresis was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but the city officials confirmed that it returned to work and has recovered in the months since the incident.

According to the police reports, two civilians were also injured.

On April 28, Geer appeared in Jefferson County's courthouse to enter a plea in this case. However, defender Megan Downing asked to continue the procedure by June so that her team could continue to negotiate with the public prosecutor.

The public prosecutor did not reject any objections to the delay, and judge Russell Klein moved Geer at 3 p.m. on June 23 at the Jeffco Courthouse for charges.

During the hearing, Downing was also asked to check GEERS bonds to carry an alcohol monitoring device on his ankle.

Geer, who was still listed on April 28 as a teaching assistant for assistant professor on the Minen website, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol during the fatal incident on November 6th.

He has a prison of 250,000 US dollars in cash/guarantee. One condition is that it is forbidden to consume alcohol and wear a ankle monitor.

Downing said Geer had so far been compliant and he did not refuse to obtain the ban against alcohol and expects this condition to stay on the spot.

Downing asked, however, whether there was another way to monitor GEERS conformity, such as: B. hair follicle tests.

She said the monitor breaks the skin around his ankle and added how she had other customers who wore a ankle monitor after several months. Downing says that Gers is ready to follow a different form of monitoring the court.

“We want to be thoughtful about this question … (because) we don't want it to reduce the severity of the case,” said Downing too small. “… we are delayed because (ger) takes the case and this condition very seriously.”

By changing the conditions for the loan of GEER, the input of the victims are necessary, the prosecutors confirmed, and the parties agreed to determine a hearing to change the bond modifications on May 14th to decide the matter.

Klein recommended both sides in advance whether there is a surveillance that agreed for both sides. He also made it clear that the hearing of May 14 may only cover the change from GEERS bond, since the indictment is its own matter.

The incident of November 6th

According to the affidavit against ger, the Golden police officers reacted to the eastern Highway 58 east of the Washington Avenue at 4:38 p.m. on November 6th. They examined a crash between a Toyota Tacoma and a Subaru CrossRek.

In the midst of Slick- and Snowy conditions, the Toyota reported that the Toyota had lost control, while the Subaru tried to pass, meet them, and both vehicles were now deactivated near the Median.

According to the affidavit, all of the vehicles involved were on the left side of Highway 58 with a gold police vehicle behind the other two. The entire other traffic moved to the right, away from the original crash scene.

The driver of the Subaru, the driver of the Toyota and her father Dunn and Grus were outside the vehicles and rated the scene at 4:53 p.m. when a black Mazda drove to the east entered the area.

According to reports, the Mazda hit the Toyota and then the Subaru and put Dunn under the latter. He died of his injuries at the scene.

After the affidavit, the founding and the Toyota driver also suffered serious injuries, the latter having a skull fracture and brain hemorrhage. Her father, who was thrown over Jersey's barrier, also suffered a major injury to the head and elbow, describes the affidavit.

The driver of the Subaru was unharmed. A third GPD officer who was behind the first accident scene in the patrol car was also unharmed.

Shortly after the crash, the authorities identified GEER as drivers of the Mazda. According to reports, he said State Troopers at the scene that after a beer in a local bar he had driven home with a colleague.

He said soldiers that he had “yellow flashing lights and tried to stop”, but the affidavit does not describe it.

The investigators discovered alcohol on Geer's breath, the affidavit continues and initially approved voluntary sustainability tests on the side of the road. After he had been informed about his Miranda rights around 6:06 p.m., he refused to continue to speak or to complete the sobriety tests.

After a search order, the investigation troops completed a blood acceptance at 8.46 p.m. in the Jeffco prison, according to the affidavit.

It also means that Geer has no previous criminal history.

On November 14, the public prosecutor's office officially put on:

  • A count of the vehicle murder, a crime of class 3, because of Dunn's death;
  • Two cases of vehicle ranges, a class 4 crime, to violate the Greens and the driver of the Toyota;
  • A count of an attack of third degree, an offense because he had violated the driver of the driver of the driver;
  • A count of driving under the influence, an offense.

City officials have confirmed that Dunn is the first golden policeman to be killed in service.

In the past six months, Goldeniten and others have honored Dunn's memory in the whole country by donating to his family and GPD and collecting donations for the recovery of Grushes.

Immediately after his death, the community organized a temporary monument for Dunn in front of the town hall and honored it during the annual Olde Golden Candlelight Walk on December 6th.

City officials said that lasting memorials for Dunn would be set up later this year.
