I tested every Apple Watch function for the battery outflow. The usual advice is wrong

There are countless online instructions that help you stretch the battery life of your Apple Watch by switching off all the most striking functions. But I wanted to be more scientific.

I wanted to know what functions the battery of the watch drain the most and how many additional lifespan you will win by switching off each of them. In this way we can decide whether it is worth the victim to switch off the always on-on display or the various health functions of the watch.

How we tested

For two weeks I wore two identical watches for this experiment (the 46 -mm -Apple Watch series 10 without mobile phone). We did our best to ensure that they were largely the same. One had 120 fees in the belt, the other – from a colleague – had 162.

I wore the two Apple watches at the same time (one on the wrist) over four test runs. In two runs, the ever-on-dandy function was activated on one clock and not on the other. All other settings were the same.

In the third run, background -app -Pdates, irregular cardiac arrhythm and general app notifications were deactivated on a watch and left alone on the other. In the fourth and last run, all settings on both watches were identical to check whether they were on an equivalent battery stand. This last run gives the remaining knowledge of scientific validity.

Results

As you can see from the graphic above, the Apple Watch, which always goes on the mode, already reaches an excellent battery life of more than 30 hours. (It should be noted that during the tests I received very few notifications from the apps on my Apple Watch, which may have helped 10 to 12 hours longer. This is a significant increase in battery life if you switch off a single (albeit useful and popular) function.

In the next run (purple and green lines in the graphic above), both watches were always activated, but I switched off the app update of background app, irregular cardiac arrhythm notifications and all app notifications (green). Although it is the best performance in the graphic, the differences are nowhere near as dramatic as with deactivation. The switching off of these functions brought us in an extra five hours.

Only in the fourth run did I notice a curiosity. While I was able to synchronize screenshots, I separated the watch on the left wrist from the iPhone and combined one on the right. In previous runs, the left clock had shown better terms, regardless of the settings. When the other watch was actively paired, the picture changed and ultimately the clock on the right wrist lasted longer than the left.

Conclusions

All functions that turn on the screen regardless of whether it is always or excessive notifications are released. That is obvious. However, to what extent these characteristics influence the battery life.

If you use notifications sparingly, this has a positive effect on the battery life. However, the management without always achieving is far larger profits and delivers an Apple Watch with unprecedented battery power. You can also use one strategically in your use of one: Choose an ever on-on face that only shows the time in which it is blocked instead of a lot of additional information. This gives you the best of both worlds.

We read online advice to switch off background updates and heart rate notifications, but these seem to be nothing more than snake oil. The switching off of these functions hardly affects the battery life, and irregular rhythm notifications can be one of the most useful functions of the Apple Watch. My advice is to keep it on.

Finally, we found that it has a negative impact on the battery life of the Apple Watch. This even applies to models without mobile phone. So if you jog, it is best to take your iPhone with you.
