The Illinois Senate Committee approves the proposal for violent crime reporting

Springfield, Ill. (Magic Stand) – The Criminal Law Committee of the Illinois Senate of the Senate unanimously supported a draft law on Tuesday to arrange the law enforcement authorities to submit quarterly reports on the number of murders and violent crimes in their communities.

The legislation calls on the Illinois state police to send the number of murders and severe attacks with a firearm to the information authority of Illinois.

This plan calls for Illinois State Police to send the number of murders and heavy attacks with a firearm to the Illinois information authority.

Police departments would also have to document if every crime appeared and the status of criminal matters.

“House Bill 1710 is about building trust and equity in our public security system,” said Peters. “If communities can see how cases are treated, this creates an accountability – so we start to close judicial gaps.”

Sponsors believe that legislators, researchers and community leaders can use this data in order to create a strong guidelines for the prevention of violence.

House Bill 1710 is now moving to the Senate for further examination. The legislation previously obtained unanimous support in the house.

“The purpose of rationalizing the process is to get away from the clearance rate number that we currently use, which is a bit opaque and does not provide people true justice,” said Rep. Kam Buckner (D-Chicago). “The change also brings the ICJIA and Illinois State Police to the neutrality of this calculation.”
