Woman who was wounded in Oakland Shooting

Oakland-a 56-year-old woman was wounded in a shootout in East Oakland on Monday evening, the authorities said.

She was in a stable state in a hospital.

The shootout, which activated a firing warning system, occurred on Monday at 9:59 p.m. in the Block of 96th Avenue around 1800, a mostly residential area.

The woman told the police that she heard several shots and found that she had been wounded. A friend drove her to a hospital.

At the scene of the crime, more than 20 rifles were recovered, the authorities said.

The authorities said there were a group of people who were also in the area and the police attempts to determine whether one of them may have been the intended goal and that the woman was hit by a stray ball. Nobody else was injured, but a parked vehicle was hit by the shots.

The police did not say if they believe that the shooter was in a vehicle or on foot. A motive for the shootout is examined. No arrests were made and no suspicious information was published.
