Ripe Nichol's trial judgment: 3 former Memphis officers were not guilty of fatal strokes

Three former police officers were acquitted by all state charges against them on Wednesday, including the second degree murder, in the death of Tire Nichols, a black man whose brutal slippery the nation stuck the nation in 2023.

It was the second trial against the three men Demetrius Haley, Tadarrius Bean and Justin Smith. They were accused of being fatal to Mr. Nichols, a Fedex employee who drove home from the officers more than two years ago.

The three were convicted last autumn for manipulation of witnesses in a separate federal procedure, but were acquitted of Mr. Nichols due to a more serious indictment for violating the civil rights by causing his death. The federal speeds were also guilty of violating Mr. Nichol's civil rights by violating physical injuries.

Two other former officers who were involved in the beats – Desmond Mill. Jr. and Emmitt Martin III – have guilty in the previous federal case; Mr. Mills also guilty before the state court. It remains unclear how the state case against Mr. Martin, who was described as the most violent civil servant of the strokes, is treated.

The jury in the state case, which was sitting from the Chattanooga area in the east of Tennessee to ensure a fair trial, reported more than eight hours after a seven -day attempt in Memphis. In addition to the second degree murder, the three defendants had been charged with serious kidnapping, official misconduct and official oppression.

The conviction in the federal procedure is expected later this year. The family of Mr. Nichols also sued Memphis and his police authority.
