Total crime is reduced by 3%in April: NYPD

Last month, the city recorded a decline in total crime by 3%, which is due to a decline in robberies, burglaries and great theft.

The dip marked the seventh month in a row that the police recorded a decline in crime a year a year, the agency said.

The NYPD recorded 1,170 robberies in April, by 13.5% compared to the 1,352, which were logged in April 2024, as NYPD data show. The break -ins fell by 9.6% compared to the previous year, from 1,055 in April 2024 to 954 in the last month, the department said.

In the course of the year, the Grand Larcenies fell by 4% compared to the previous year, from 3,881 to 3,726 in the last month, the NYPD added.

However, the murders had risen by 12% last month, and 28 murders were registered in April 2024.

Reported rape recorded an increase of 30%, with 169 incidents registered in the past month compared to 130 in April 2024. The NYPD attributed the increase to a new state law that expanded the definition of rape to more forms of sexual attacks.

The city also recorded an increase in crimes of 1.5% of crimes – from 2,374 in April 2024 to 2,410 in the past month – and an increase in the Grand Durcenies Auto from 1,137 in April last month.

The shootings of the shootings in the city rose by 21.7%compared to the previous year, from 60 in April 2024 to 73 in the past month, according to the NYPD.

The transit crime also increased, with 152 incidents reported last month compared to 141 in April last year, which marked a jump of 7.8%.

In an explanation, the NYPD commissioner Jessica Table said that the agency is planning to introduce its “summer power plan” next week because it continues to work to combat crimes.

“The crime has dropped for the seventh month in a row, and that is the direct result of the strategies we introduced and the tireless work of the men and women of the NYPD,” said Tisch. “But even with this progress we are not satisfied – we can do more and more to reduce crime and ensure that the New Yorkers feel safe.”
