The memos show that the US countries are taking Starlink. Some show that countries believe that this could help to lubricate their US trade and customs negotiations. A memo about the tiny African nation Lesotho, against which the United States imposed a 50% tariff, said that it reported on its new 10-year contract with Starlink.

Elon Musk is the founder and CEO of SpaceX and one of the closest consultants in the Trump government. A spokesman for the White House informed the Swiss Post that there is no conflict of interest. The Foreign Ministry described the work of doing business for an American satellite company as “patriotic” in the light of the competition from China. SpaceX did not immediately answer our request for comment.
