4 students killed as a vehicle falls on the program after the school in Illinois, says Coroner, says Coroner

Four students between the ages of 4 and 18 were killed in Central -Illinois on Monday afternoon, when a vehicle pushed a school camp program, the authorities said.

While the cause of the crash in Chatham, about 12 miles south of Springfield, is examined, the state police said on Tuesday that “it doesn't seem to be a targeted attack”.

The driver, the 44-year-old Marianne Akers in Chatham, was not in custody, officials said on Tuesday.

Jim Allmon, forensic doctor of Sangamon County, said on Monday evening in a statement that the victims were “four students” who were declared dead at the scene.

Three of the victims were outside the building and one was inside, the state police said in a statement.

The tests of the victims were expected to testify on Tuesday as part of the investigation of the incident, said Allmon. They are identified to the public after family members have been informed about their death, the forensic doctor said.

Some others were injured, officials said, including a person who was taken to a hospital with the helicopter.

A vehicle drove to the east side of a building that the Ynot used after the school camp, the state police said. It hit several people inside and left the west wall of the building, said the agency.

The driver who was the only person in the vehicle was hospitalized, but unharmed, the state police said on Tuesday. Toxicological tests have taken place and the results are still pending.

The state police said that the crash would continue to be examined.

The Chatham police called deaths as “terrible tragedy”.

“If you believe in the power of prayer, please take a moment to pray for the entire Chatham community,” they said in an explanation.

Governor JB Pritzker said on X that he was “horrified” about what happened and that his office was ready to support the affected people.

“Our community has lost a group of lighter and innocent young people who have their whole life ahead of them,” he said. “The parents said goodbye to their children this morning without knowing that it would be the last time.”

He added: “My heart is difficult for these families.”

Personal lessons were canceled on Tuesday at the Ball Chatham School District Campus, where an e-learning day was explained instead, “only the emotional well-being of everyone in the Ball Chatham community,” said spokesman Danny Frey in a explanation.

The village of Chatham has a population of more than 14,000 and with an average household income of more than $ 106,000, as the latest census data has produced.

NBC partner staff from Springfield reported that the building is rented over a City Water Tower and Park in the camp or owned by the camp.

A representative of the camp did not immediately answer an information request. According to his website, a Springfield couple launched it in 2002 to keep the children active in summer and to promote the mind.
