Jai Opetaia brutally strikes David Nyika in round 4 to defend the title of IBF cruiser weight

Jai Opetaia ensured that the martial arts year started with a bang.

The Australian champion kept its IBF and ring magazine cruiser weight title with a brutal fourth round knockout of the obligatory challenger David Nyika on Wednesday morning in a sold-out Gold Coast Convention Center in Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia, in the fourth round.

There was no feeling between Opetaia and Nyika. Both men threw large shots from the opening bell and Nyika had an appropriate success against Opetaia when they were exchanged up close. But Opetaia became stronger in the course of the competition, and Nyika, who had never passed five laps, began to fade.

In the fourth round, Opetaia chose his aggression and shot Nyika, especially with the right hook, which was an important blow to the Australian. Opetaia and Nyika were bound in a clinch with 80 seconds before the fourth lead; When they broke out, Opetaia let go of a left hand that Nyika managed to avoid, but Nyika did not see the follow-up punch, a short right hook that ground.

Nyika got up almost immediately and decided not to take the full 10 points-clearly a bad choice because the New Zealand was still on shaky legs when the action was resumed. Opetaia raved about the goal immediately and forced Nyika into the ropes. The defending champion briefly switched to an orthodox attitude and swung with a superiority that caught Nyika rinsing on the chin. Nyika fell on the ropes and was effectively switched off on the feet, but because it was stopped by the ropes, he made three further punishment shots from Opetaia.

When Nyika went down at some point, he did his face first. There was serious concern for Nyika's health when he fell out on the floor, but luckily he got back on his feet after a few minutes.

In his interview after the fight, Opetaia Gilberto “Siedo” Ramirez called for a WBA, WBO and IBF title association. The co-promoter of Opetaias, Mick Francis by Tasman Fighters, mentioned with a potential date of May 3 for this competition.
