The residents of SouthCentral El Paso unite to solve crime issues

The residents near the Myrtle Avenue and the noble street frustrated by years of crime and security concerns take measures by forming a neighborhood association.

The group aims to create a stronger voice in the town hall to tackle the ongoing problems, including drug use, attacks, damage to property and shots associated with a free property in the region.

El Pasoan Frank Larios emphasized the meaning of the unity of the community.

“The more we get together, the more power we need to keep this problem into operation and let the city know what is going on instead of just one or two or three of us,” said Larios.

Despite the efforts of the city guides, with the owner and the Opportunity Center for the homeless to install a fence, the residents said that the problems were on the streets.

In response to this, the residents spoke at city council meetings and held a community meeting with civil servants to request measures.

Larios expressed the group's determination to stay active.

“If it is what it will take, we are ready to get something going, put it together and keep going to the city council every time you meet, we will definitely remain active and continue to speak to city officials from all these different agencies,” said Larios.

Nickole Rodriguez, director of the community and human development of El Paso, emphasized the advantages of a registered neighborhood association.

“The main advantage for registered neighborhood associations is that you receive the planning notifications about any kind of reconcilations or special permits that influence your neighborhood. It is your chance to be part of an organized, uniform voice in the name of the residents,” she said.

The residents plan to continue to participate in the city council meetings in order to sharpen the awareness and support of their cause.
