A classic by Judy Blume has inspired a new and “epic love story”.

“Forever”, a newly designed version of the young adult novel from 1957, follows the story of two black teenagers, Keisha and Justin, who researches and their identity through the unpleasant journey.

The book also follows a young couple when they navigate to relationships, sex and high school. The love story of Keisha and Justin, however, plays in front of the sun -drenched background of 2018 in Los Angeles.

“All the questions we have to search – the first time you have sex, your first kiss, the first time that you 'I love you' 'say' – it has resonance at the time and it is now a resonance,” said the executing producer and showrunner Mara Brock Akil to Netflix.

Blume, who was not entirely confident that the story would translate, gave Brock Akil her blessing after hearing her perspective.

“I am thrilled that Mara has decided to tell this story through her own lens,” said Blume to Netflix. “It is gratifying to know that the love story of 50 years after its publication in the core of 'Forever' is still clear with the audience.”
