Matthew Petgrave, whose skate has fatally beaten up the natives Adam Johnson, is not charged

Duluth – Matthew Petgrave, whose skate was fatally cut by the former hockey player of the University of Minnesota Duluth, Adam Johnson's neck during a game in 2023 in England, is not communicated for Crown Prosecution Services on Tuesday.

Johnson, a 29-year-old Hibbing-native who played for the Nottingham Panthers, was in the offensive zone during the October game when the Skate blade of the defender of Sheffield Steelers was connected to Johnson's neck directly under his helmet. Johnson fell to the ice and was helped bloody by a teammate, his jersey and ice cream. He died in the hospital.

“This is a shocking and deeply disturbing incident,” said Michael Quinn, deputy prosecutor of Crown, in a press release. “The CPS and the police from South Yorkshire have worked closely to determine whether criminal complaints should be raised against the other ice hockey players involved.”

Quinn said after a thorough examination of the evidence, it was found that there was no “realistic view of conviction for crimes”.

Johnson came to the UMD Bulldogs in 2015 and played for two years to end his career as a deputy captain. It is best known for a gaming gate that sent the western regional final into the NCAA Frozen Four.

“I've probably seen this goal 40 times,” said Sandelin. “I haven't seen it for a long time. I just look at it. Only a small step he took brings great memories back.”
