Winston Hacking & Phillippe Tardifs 'Listen2Me' Musikvideo

Canada's animated Collage Wunderkind, Winston Hacking, is once again with the stop-motion-Maestro Philippe Tardif to create “Listen2Me”-a shiny visual tour de force.

Throw Terry Gilliam into a blender with Michael Snow, and you could end something so spectacular “Listen2Me”, a music video for Foxwarren. The piece with a breathtaking stop-motion animation of employees Tardif is a technical and visual explosion, an uncertain zoom trip, perhaps in the chaotic spirit of a man, where we come across a number of faces, objects and scenarios.

While the singer complains that she is not being heard, the frenetic pictures of the video underlines the idea that if they are only really attentive, they could hear that they have something to say-a relevant message at a time when our unchecked, scroll-induced addition of mindscape leaves little space for meaningful connection.

Phillipe TarDiff offered an insight into the production:

We only had a few weeks to create the video, and Winston had already created the constant camera in his recordings, so I thought that this was a great opportunity to try a technique that I had heard of but I had never played. I have encouraged the animation like the brain dancers or the flowering flowers by using a movement -controlled camera to shoot the frames outside the order instead of being straight out, as is usually carried out in stop motion.

Basically, I shot all the frames from Pose One, put the camera back, moved the neckline dolls to pose two, shoot all of these frames, repeat … it enabled me to use animations again and get everything in the camera. This meant that some animations such as the LIPSYNC, for example, had to be turned blindly, but somehow worked with the automaton/windup toy animation style that I wanted.

Hacking is a graduate of the Sheridan College media art program and is known for creatively recontionalizing in-depth film material and photography through composition and stop-motion animation. He shot music videos for Flying Lotus, Andy Shauf and the jewels with his work at international festivals such as Ottawa and Annecy.
Tardif, born in Quebec, has been working for Aardman, Laika and Copernicus for over 20 years at Aardman, Laika and Copernicus.
