Small plane crashes at Lee County Airport

Sanford, NC (WTVD) – Two people were injured when a small aircraft fell in a field in Raleigh Executive Jetport in the 700 Rod Sullivan Road in Lee County on Wednesday afternoon.

It happened shortly after 4 p.m., the two on board, a pilot and a mechanic, were injured. The pilot was identified as Terrence Gallagher by Chapel Hill, who was also the owner of the aircraft. He was at risk of life for UNC hospitals in a critical condition.

The mechanic was identified as Scott Riley. He was listed in a serious condition after he was Duke for lifetime.

The pilot has practiced touch-and-go maneuvers, a kind of procedure in which aircraft land and immediately take off, the authorities said. They are usually used in emergency situations.

At its last start, the plane wandered to the left and hit the ground, which caused the crash.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol leads the investigation.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will take over and start on Thursday morning.
