Crimes for the 7th month, but some categories rise in April

Citywide – Police Commissioner JSSICA table announced on Wednesday This total index crime in New York City fell on the seventh month in a row in April 2025 with a decrease of 3% compared to the previous month. The biggest decline in April April is robbery (-13.5%), burglary (-9.6%) and Grand theft (-4%).

However, several crime categories have made this trend. While the Mordraten fell in general this year, in April 2025 (28 opposite 25) there were three more murders than in the same month of the previous year. Similarly, there were generally 13 other shooting events (73 compared to 60) and 17 other shooting victims (86 vs. 69) compared to 2024. In April, crimes (+1.5%) and car theft (+5%) also rose in April. In public housing, index crime rose in April by 1.6%, while the total amount of year to year has dropped by 6.4%. Beginning of incidents and rape both rose by 30%.

“The crime has dropped for the seventh month in a row, and that is the direct result of the strategies we have introduced and the tireless work of the NYPD men and women,” said NYPD commissioner Tisch in an explanation.
