Filmmakers behind a new documentary about the murder of the Al Jazera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh by Israeli armed forces say that they have uncovered the identity of the soldier who has deducted the withdrawal.

Who killed Shireen ?, A 40-minute investigative documentary, which was published on Thursday by Washington, DC, in media companies Zeteo, identifies the murderer as a 20-year-old Israeli soldier, who was on his first fighting tour in the occupied West Bank and avoids the lid at attempts by the United States to prevent the allies responsible for the murder.

Dion Nissenbaum, the executive producer of the documentary, told Al Jazera that his creators had decided to discover exactly who was behind the murder – a secret that, according to Zeteo, was previously protected by Israel – and that they hoped that the findings would lead to further investigations by the United States.

The administration of the former US President Joe Biden had “come to the conclusion that an Israeli soldier had deliberately targeted her, but this conclusion was overridden internally,” he said.

“We have found some evidence that both Israel and the Biden Administration Shireens Murder covered up and allowed the soldiers to get away without an accountability,” he added.

Anton Abu Akleh, Shireen's brother, said that the documentary was “really important” for her family. “I am sure that it will throw more light and prove that it was systematically targeted by the Israeli army like other journalists in Palestine,” he said.

The documentary contains exclusive interviews not only with ex-US civil servants, but also with former Israeli top Israeli officials and soldiers as well as journalists who personally knew Shireen.

“We hope that people will be reminded of what was an icon shireen,” said Nissenbaum.

In “cold blood”

Abu Akleh was wearing a helmet and a clearly marked press vest when she was killed on the Jenin refugee camp on May 11, 2022 when she sentenced an action on the Jenin refugee camp that condemned the Al Jazera Media Network as a “cold-blooded assassination”.

Studies on their killings carried out by news agencies, right -wing groups and the United Nations have come to the conclusion that Abu Akleh was probably deliberately killed by Israeli soldiers.

Israel initially tried to distract the guilt for the incident and suggested that Palestinian fighters killed the journalist, but finally this claim decreased and recognized that his troops were responsible for their death and said it was “an accident”.

A year later, Israel's military said that it was “deeply sorry” for the death of Abu Akleh, but there would be no criminal proceedings against the soldiers, which is believed to be behind the murder.

The United States dropped its request for an Israeli criminal investigation after the apology of Israel.

Abu Akleh's death shocked the world and concentrated on the international spotlight on Israeli murders of Palestinian journalists.

Reporters without borders said on Friday that the Israeli forces killed almost 200 journalists in the first 18 months of the Israeli attack on Gaza, of which at least 42 were killed during their work.
