The Trump-Ukraine minerals deal gets green light from the parliament in Kyiv-Politico

Ukraine initially wanted Washington to provide security guarantees and new help in exchange for critical minerals. But the United States did not offer this and instead demanded that Kyiv pay all of the money agreed as aid and at the same time maintain the preference access and essentially control most natural resources from Ukraine.

After a tense debate, both parties on Kyiv, the promise of an equal partnership and even the new weapon sales for Kyiv, did not agree – but still no clear security guarantees from the USA, even if Putin's war continues.

“Trump believed [the deal] Would create more levers for him with the Russian leadership if it was time to go to them. The idea was to start with Ukraine and sign the deal that shows that the United States is still there. It would be a symbol for the American public, skeptical of financial obligations that it was possible to have shared prosperity with Ukraine. Essentially, it would be a tacit security guarantee as an economic partnership, ”said Scott Bessent, US finance minister, on Monday at the Milken Institute's Global Conference.
