X Report by the former Istanbul Mayor, who was blocked because of crime

The public prosecutor's office in Istanbul announced that a court had passed an application for access to the official X report by the former mayor Ekrem Imamoğlu, which was arrested in March for allegations of corruption.

Imamoğlus report was used after the mayor had been detained and often forwarded his news from prison. The office said the decision to block the account refers to the indictment that “people encourage people to commit crime”, and the content of propaganda of a criminal organization.

The report openly called up the public to take the street to protest against the arrest of Imamoğlu.

Officials said, especially a tweet published on April 24, led to the decision of the court. The said tweet contains a long statement by Imamoğlu, which compared the current state of the Türkiye with the circumstances of the War of Independence after the Second World War and asks the nation not to tolerate it.

“The nation will be confident again,” said the post and distorted an original saying from the Republic of Türkiy's founder Mustafa Kemal Atatetsürk and implies an uprising against the democratically elected government.

The riots broke out over Torkiye when Imamoğlu's Republican People's Party (CHP) asked the supporters to take to the streets and oppose the police. The rioters attacked the police in daily incidents that recently deal in the area, although the CHP continues to keep rallies to support the former mayor.
