Charles Thompson, a double murderer who has been in the death cell for 25 years, opened the gloomy reality of his situation.

Thompson was convicted of shooting his ex-girlfriend Dennise Haylip (39) and her new friend Darren Cain in 1998. In 2005 he briefly escaped prison, but quickly became recaptured and returned to solitary confinement, where he spent most of this century.

Thompson was given the opportunity to speak from his cell for a documentary with the British channel 5 with the title Dead Man Walking: Dan Walker in Death Row.

During the interview, Dan Walker, the former BBC breakfast moderator Dan Walker, asked Thompson about his thoughts about his upcoming death in the hope that the question was not “too pathological”.

In response, Thompson said: “Oh, it is the most unnatural thing to know that you will contact you to die and watch the clock tick. It is not natural. You shouldn't know your time.

“The Execution Nightmare, the execution room, is probably the worst. They wake up with a cold sweat and they are like … that was just too real.

“I had seen how friends were executed, heard close friends and cry at night.”

He also expressed frustration that he was only allowed from his cell for up to four hours a week, and compared his situation to pets that get more freedom.

When he spoke in prison about his daily life, he said: “We are probably kept in solitary confinement. So my day usually starts at six, seven in the morning.

The documentary has corresponded to British television

“We only got a television a year ago. I haven't had a television for 24 years. I have read books like a bookworm for 24 years.”

He added with a laugh: “I am read very well.”

His actions led to the son of his former friend Wade lost his mother at the tender age of 13. In the documentary, he remembered: “I can remember that I pulled out of the class from my Vice School Manager and entered our youth consultant's office and explained what had happened.

“And I remember that I went to the hospital and waited that night and finally saw her on the bed … that was a different experience.”

When Wade was confronted with the description of the murder of the murderer as a “dispute”, he replied: “The evidence indicates that he stepped into the door that morning and a total of seven shots were fired.

“He had to reload so much that the weapon was jammed and could not be fired again. A shot was placed on her cheek and then painted on the other side of her jawbone. He said he knew that she had been hit because he could flew her teeth out of her mouth … that is anger.”

Wade opened about experiencing a recurring nightmare in which Thompson would shoot him.

Thompson thought about the tragic incident and now expressed his repentance in front of the camera and said: “It was the worst day of my life.

“I regret it. I wish I could take it back. When this case took place 27 years ago, I was 27 years old, almost 28 years old, I was an alcoholic, I was equipped with cocaine with hard drugs. I was still very immature for 27.

Despite the time that has passed, Thompson stays in the death cell and is waiting for the planning of his execution.
