8 films that can see as a family on this Mother's Day

The film evening has become one of my favorite traditions with my 10-year-old daughter. The beauty is that we sometimes see a film that she recently discovered, or I will share one of my childhood favorites with her. I love how many titles trigger conversations that make sure that my daughter knows that I understand her growing pain.

If another mother's day approaches, you should watch a cozy day together. It is a great way to connect, laugh, enjoy a few funny snacks and even have a heart-to-heart without feeling forced!

Here are eight thematic titles that you check out as a family.

Become 'red' (2022)

Evaluation: Pg

As you can see: Stream on Disney+ or rent/buy digital

Anyone who raises a daughter should know that puberty … well … is a roller coaster ride. In this relevant and liberating Pixar film from 2022, Mei seems to be on the surface like any other teenager. She is obsessed with Boy -Bands, her friends and takes a crush to notice. But Mei is convinced that her arrogant mother is only embarrassed while she never understands her fights. Sounds familiar? However, the turn is that Mei discovers that it turns into a huge red panda when your feelings run up!

This film really celebrates the chaotic, beautiful and ultimately loving bond between mothers and daughters. The fight to find yourself as a body changes directly before all eyes are for the transition. This film is a moving memory that mothers are an important part of this time – no matter how very daughters try to fight against him!

'Little Women' (2019 and 1994)

Evaluation: Pg

As you can see: (Version 2019) stream on Hulu, YouTube TV; (Version 1994) Rent/buy digital

The beloved story about the March sisters and her strong mother of the mother has seen several film adaptations. My personal favorite is the 1994 version with the flawless list of Winona Ryder, Kirsten Dunst, Claire Danes and Susan Sarandon.

But you can't go wrong with Barbie Director Greta Gerwig's 2019 version with Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, Emma Watson and Timothée Chalamet.

No matter which version you choose, the central topic is the importance of the family. Each of Marme's daughters has different hopes, dreams, efforts and temperaments. Nevertheless, it is able to exceed everyone with a unique perspective and to provide wisdom, love and respect that they all need.

Bonus: Start a mother and daughter -book club to read the book together after watching!

'Freaky Friday' (2003 and 1976)

Evaluation: Pg

As you can see: Stream on Disney+

How often did you and your children want you could spend a day in the other's shoes? Well, that is what makes it out Freaky Friday a must.

A mother and a daughter of teenagers who constantly collapses wake up to determine that after a encounter with a mysterious lucky biscuit bodies. Accident? We don't think! This film has a hilarious “what if” premise, but it is also a powerful start -up starter for mothers and teenagers who are in an understanding of understanding.

While you can't go wrong with the original from 1976 with Jodie Foster, I am part of the 2003 version with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. And it looks like these two will not miss a beat in the upcoming sequel More triggered Friday.

'The Parent Trap' (1998 and 1961)

Evaluation: Pg

As you can see: Stream on Disney+

Okay, so admittedly, The parent trap Has a far -fetched action. But with the underlying message about unconditional family love in the midst of some difficult and inevitable decisions – it works.

The twins Hallie and Annie (both by a young Lindsay Lohan) were separated at birth when their parents were divorced. In her separation agreement, Hallie was brought up by her father in California and Annie by her mother in London. The twins have no idea about the existence of the other until they happen to go to the same summer camp and decide to change places at the end of summer.

It is a great option to talk about divorce, sibling rivalry and how parents sometimes make decisions with unforeseen consequences – because yes, adults also make mistakes!

If you want to attend the old school, you can also watch the original film from 1961 with Hayley Mills!

“Mamma Mia!” (2008)

Evaluation: PG-13

As you can see: Stream Max, Hulu, Amazon Prime

This is one of the funniest films that mothers can see with children because it earns itself as a dance party and singing. Based on the music of ABBA – the film is a young woman who is about to get married. Unknown to her mother, she invites the three men who could Be your father to the wedding.

If you drop by the cheerfulness (and stop singing), the film is really a love letter of strong, independent single mothers. It also shows the importance of friendship and reminds children of all ages that they are never too old to have their mother at their side.

“The Princess Diaries” (2001)

Evaluation: G

As you can see: Stream Disney+

Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway) is just an ordinary girl who lives with her single mother. Then her alienated grandmother appears with life -changing news: Mias the only legacy of the small European kingdom of Genovia. But before Mia can take over her royal duties, she needs “princess lessons” overnight.

In this film there is so much to explore that you find your comfort zone outside of your comfort zone and find people who support you because you love you, not just because you are kings. Self -acceptance, hug of men and the loved ones of things that make them unique are all important topics for mothers that can be due to their children!

'Truop Beverly Hills' (1989)

Evaluation: Pg

As you can see: Rent or buy digital

I might have seen this film every weekend of my childhood! I still can't get enough of the wilderness girl's extravagant life in troops. It really teaches that you cannot judge a book after your cover. Although the so-called “spoiled” girls earn patches in things like “advanced shopping”, they refuse to be underestimated. And this charge is her Hen mother, a spoiled, spoiled housewife of Beverly Hills, who becomes surprisingly imaginative and inspiring for the troop.

There are a lot of laughter, but there is also a lot of heart in the film. It shows how parental relationships can develop when mothers and children face new challenges together.

Now I dare to go through the film without singing: “Beverly Hills, what a thrill!”

'Mean Girls' (2004 and 2024)

Evaluation: PG-13

As you can see: Stream on Paramount+, Amazon Prime, Roku; Rent or buy digital

We promise that this is not a Lindsay Lohan fan list – but she really had a few bangers!

Since I've seen the original Mean GirlsI couldn't wait to become a mother, so I could say: “I'm not like a normal mother, I am a cool mother.” But I couldn't wait to share this legendary film with my daughter. It really opens such an important dialogue about group pressure, social hierarchies and the right thing – even if it is not the “cool” thing.

Every mother has a teenager -friendship drama stories (some may have the latest). So this is a great way for mothers and teenagers to connect some of these problems, both in the past and in the present.

And if music is your love language, you can also choose the 2024 -update based on the Broadway show!
