Detroit Tigers Pitcher returns to the hill 13 months after the injury

Sawyer Gipson-Long's long way back to health enters the last phase.

The right -hander in Detroit Tigers will be used on Thursday evening with Lakeland in class A.

It will be a game in a game since April 7, 2024 (also in Lakeland). At that time, Gipson-Long had been sent to a rehab excursion with the flying tigers to recover from a groin injury that was suffered during the spring training.

But he reported under the forearm during this start and, after consulting several doctors, undertooked an operation by Tommy John Elbow later this month.

In July in July, he underwent hip surgery to tackle the problem while it is already out.

“I was able to combine my Tommy John Rehab and Hip -Reha, and it actually worked out pretty well,” he said in February. “Instead of getting TJ, having to rehabilitate this and later having hip surgery and rehabilitation separately, it was more efficient to do both of them together – like two birds with a stone.”

Gipson-Long, 27, played College Ball at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, and was drawn in by the Minnesota Twins in the sixth round in 2019.

In 2022 he was traded against the helper Michael Fulmer.

Before the injury, Gipson-Long impressed the Tigers in four late seasons in 2023 and achieved an ERA of 2.70, while he reached 26 and went eight in 20 innings.

The medical report of the full tigers is below.
