Nawrocki property scandal dominates the online debate in Poland

The hashtag #nawrocki reached an audience of 426 million, with 177,000 mentions marking the highest one -day reach for a political topic in Poland last year.

According to data from Thursday, the topic of #Mieszkanienawrockiego (Nawrocki's apartment) achieved an estimated traffic of 1.4 billion and May 8 on social media platforms between 5 and 8. The numbers reflect the extent of the online engagement on allegations in which the presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki and his controversial acquisition are involved.

So far, the prosecutors have received two formal complaints in the northern city in which Nawrocki, the presidential candidate, who represents the Right Wing Law and Justice (PIS) party.

The case revolves around the controversial acquisition of a municipal apartment of an 80-year-old man who now lives in a state care facility.
The complaints – submitted by the left senator and competitive candidate Magdalena Biejat and a private individual – were initially recognized by the Warsaw district of the Warsaw district and forwarded to the local authorities.

The controversy exploded after Nawrocki claimed on TV during a television debate that he had only one apartment. Only days later, the news channel Onet reported that he actually has two.

Nawrocki's spokesman insisted that the second property did not achieve an income and was occupied by a person who had long supported as a community activist in the Siedlce district in Gdikt.

At the beginning of this week, Onet identified the older man involved and announced that he had entered state supply in 2024. In the middle of the increasing examination, Nawrocki later announced plans to donate the apartment for charitable purposes.
