Mojang has just killed support for Minecraft VR, an underestimated but very faulty VR experience

The power of nostalgia is an incredible thing. It can lead to you long for spaghetti hoops after a hard work. You can feel like a child if you get a hint of a fragrance that you cannot completely place, and it can lead you to restart Minecraft for the tenth time so as not to play it after a week.

VR was the first time that I had been surprised to open a new blocked world for years, and it happened about thirty minutes after my Oculus quest (yes, the first) arrived. Now, almost a decade after his first implementation, Mojang has removed the VR support.

Okay, we have known about it for some time. Last October, Mojang announced that it would end the support for Minecraft VR in March 2025, and there was even a small grower period, which is why it stopped in May (as discovered by PC World). Mojang's implementation of Minecraft in VR was very strange that this blow dared to dare in a very strange way, both spirited and a little overwhelming.

In my time with the game, I always had the feeling of playing Minecraft, with a small asterisks at the top right. Firstly, the performance was inconsistent, and I often had to tinker with things or turn off my setup again and again to get it running.

The beating of trees, mud and zombies did not feel as satisfactory as I wish, there were often clear shots or generally the speed (I swear, it is the fault of the game that I miss the zombie again and again). In order to feel more like Minecraft, I had to exchange to click on a button to click on trees, but it simply does not quite capture the magic to play VR.

Minecraft VR is one of the funniest experiences that I played with VR in my years. Games like No Man's Sky and Phasmophobia prove that converting flat games into the world of VR can give the game a nice recording adrenaline, and I think this is mainly because these games feel very comfortable in their original form.

When my keyboard or Playstation controller is removed from my hand and I get the Meta controller in your place, I suddenly be afraid of zombies again. Meta Minecraft added a depth to the world in which I felt that I was playing it again for the first time. That sounds like a cliché, but it's true. To see Minecraft in VR felt just different.

In a fun coincidence, I only tried to start virtual Minecraft last month. It didn't work and I can only assume that this was partly my fault, but it shows that the game was in my head. There are problem bypass if you still want to play it in the form of mods like Vivecraft.

Vivecraft is a embodiment of one of the best things in PC games. It is a free fan fan support mod that people can use to play Minecraft in VR from their PC. In addition to a handful of similar fan projects, it offers a better experience than the official port.

However, Vivecraft does not take compatibility into account. Playing Minecraft in VR on the official route meant that they can join other worlds on which their friends played, and they didn't need a VR helmet to play next to them. To play with others, you have to work at least a few mods and convince all of your friends to do the same. It also does not repair that PSVR Minecraft VR players have no problem bypass.

Unfortunately, we do not know what the players for Mojang's VR-Port were before the end of his support, but Mojang's reasoning is likely to be connected to Minecraf's largest sales argument.

Minecraft is a completely different game than that for which I am nostalgic, and that is due to the implementation of new mobs, areas, ores and much more. Each update also requires an update for any other version of Minecraft, and this additional work is tightened by the fact that Mojang has to update both the basic rock and the Java versions of the game. The versions of the Xbox 360-, PS3, Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game have all been set and have not been updated for years. Since the game is getting bigger, developers generally have to think about what they implement and what platforms of this update.

The support of Minecraft VR loses only one further stage in the planned outdoor alteration of older or less popular versions of Minecraft, and the official VR support felt particularly half-heartedly, even if it was in the heyday.

It is a shame to see the official support of Minecraft VR, even if it doesn't feel like a big surprise. In view of the strength of virtual reality in Minecraft ports in fan circles, the community can hopefully continue to take up the gap.
