The man gets 6 months in prison for fatal UTV crash

Canton, New York (WWNY) – A man was convicted of 180 days in prison in an accident in 2023, in which a Potsdam woman was dead.

The crash occurred in the city of Stockholm in May 2023. The state police said, Kristie Jo Dow, 34, was a passenger on the UTV who was driven by her husband Steven Dow (36) when the crash took place.

According to the police, the Potsdam couple drove south on the Skinnerville Road when Steven lost control of the UTV and caused it to turn around.

Kristie was declared dead at the crime scene.

The police said they smelled alcohol on Steven's breath while interviewing him and that he had failed at the scene.

Dow was arrested and the second degree was charged for driving strikes and driven in intoxicating driving.

Dow was sentenced to 180 days in the district prison on Thursday morning for a plea contract and 5 years of probation in front of the County Court Court in St. Lawrence.
