Trump reveals 'breakthrough' US UK trade agreement, initially since the 'liberation day'

President Trump said that trade negotiations with China will be “content” and that the British trade negotiations will be compared with the more tense relationship with Beijing and the European Union.

“We can play all games,” said Trump reporters in the Oval Office. “Who made the first call? … No matter. It is only important what happens in this group. But I will tell you that China wants to make a lot of deal.”

Top US officials, including Finance Minister Scott Bessent and the US sales representative Jamieson Greer, will meet this weekend in Geneva, Switzerland, for preliminary discussions with Chinese colleagues. The goal is the deescalation and not progress in a certain trade agreement, said Bessent.

On Wednesday, Trump said that he would not make concessions to bring China to the negotiating table. But when he was asked on Thursday whether China tariffs could be reduced, Trump said that they could be, depending on how trade talks run.

“We'll see,” said Trump. “At the moment it is 145%. You can't be higher, so we know that it will come down.”

In the broader sense, Trump suggested that more trade agreements will soon be able.

“This is just the beginning,” said Trump. “We will have conferences, or at some point we will not have any conferences, we only give out one explanation that we have only signed this country, this country. After some of them are ready – nobody has enough people to do it.
