President Donald Trump reacted on Thursday after the Vatican announced the selection of a new Pope.

The context

White Smoke turned out from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel at 6:07 p.m. and signaled that at least 89 of the 133, who participated in the conclave, had chosen a successor for Pope Francis.

What to know?

“I saw the smoke, but I didn't see the Pope,” said Trump on the way from an event of the White House with military maker.

Shortly after Trump's statements, Cardinal Robert Prevost was announced as the successor to Francis. Prevost, now known as Pope Leo XIV, is the first American Pope.

Trump reacted to Leo's selection and wrote about the social truth: “Congratulations to Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, who was currently called Pope. It is an honor to see that he is the first American pope. What a great honor for our country. I look forward to meeting Pope Leo XIV. It is a very important moment!”

Leo thanked the cardinals, who chose him on Thursday as Francis' successor in the comments: “We have to look for a mission church, a church that builds bridges and dialogue that are always ready to accept how this great piazza, like this great piazza, with the weapons, we have to show our charity organization, presence and dialogue with love.”
