Free sale in Kingfield Area takes up the active purchase nothing group

A contribution that gives away a box of newborn clothing, an offer of mosaic tiles for a person's art project, and a question about plastic shopping bags for Kitty Wurf are some of the recent contributions on the Kingfield/East Harriet/Tangletown Buy Nothing on Facebook that has over 3,000 members.

Free items like this will be available on Saturday in connection with the Kingfield Garage Sale in the districts.

The purchase of nothing sales essentially operates itself, whereby members add their location to an interactive Google card and determine their own times for sale on May 10th.

Around 35 houses take part in the free sale in the late morning until early evening, and the sale of Kingfield Garage took 57 houses from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“As someone who lives in the neighborhood, I look for the free sales, train also in garage sales and spend money,” said Martha Garcés, the administrator of the online group. “I personally have the feeling that there is space for everyone and it works really well.”

The neighborhood-wide Buy Nothing Group was launched by Garcés in 2020 after the Bryant/Bancroft group joined the highway and wanted to form one for its own neighborhood. Most do not buy groups that reach 3,000 people into smaller groups.

“I just never wanted to,” said Garcés.

The group's resistance to Splitter and the socio -economic diversity in the group are the two biggest reasons why Garcés announced the maintenance of the large group.

Don't buy anything on the west coast. It is intended to create hyperlocal groups with which people can build relationships with objects and goods and services free of charge and ask about the things you need (here the question of plastic bags comes in).

In no groups people can ask goods, services and people's time or ask. People are also cordially invited to show gratitude.

“It's not about the stuff, it's about the community,” said Garcés.

Heather Piper, another member of the group of the Kingfield region, encourages people to join the Buy Niellels group of their neighborhood.

“Our community comes together, regardless of needs or wishes,” said Piper. “Wherever there is abundance, we have the back of the other. We pay attention to each other.”
