Eyewitnesses describes moments in front of Lee County aircraft crash

Sanford, NC (WTVD) – On Wednesday, ABC11 will learn more about the plane crash in Lee County, in which two men were seriously injured.

This crash occurred shortly after 4 p.m. in a field near Raleigh Executive Jetport, when the authorities said that the pilot had “touch and go's”, an aviation maneuver with which you can use starts and landings. Both the Pilot Terrance Gallagher and the mechanic Scott Riley were seriously injured in the wreck and flown to triangular hospitals. On Thursday afternoon there is no update on your conditions.

On Friday, ABC11 spoke to George Scheer, Chief Flight Instructor in the Wings of Carolina Flying Club, which was based in Raleigh Executive Jetport but had no connection to the crash. Scheer would not speculate about the cause of the crash, but described what he saw from the edge of the runway ramp when this plane went down.

“It was significantly low to the ground,” he said. “Anyone who would have gone out there and the plane would not have climbed as high as it should.”

Scheer was preparing to take a training flight when the incident took place, and the first was at the crime scene of the wreck after the plane crashed.

“It came in the start phase at the end of the runway, but it was lower than it should have been when it reached the southern end of the runway,” he said.

The long -time flight instructor said it seemed that the plane tried to return to the runway after trying a start – a maneuver, the sheer “a difficult challenge” called.

“Try to turn back to the runway and crash there in the field, and there is aerodynamics that occur when you try to maneuver that makes it more difficult than it seems,” he said.
