“I'm afraid to death? Yes, Deadline hits, as families for the complex convict, still looking for the relocation

Gardner, Kan. (KCTV) – Families were still desperate when the evacuation period in Aspen Place Apartments approached.

188 units were convicted on Tuesday, and the residents were given 48 hours to find a new home.

According to the city, previous issues that were addressed by the residents were examined, but the recent conviction was arranged after a fire engine had fallen through the street, which means that the property for the emergency reaction was no longer safe.

“I'm afraid to death? Yes, that's me,” said Candice Walker. “I have no money to get a new home. What well, the next bridge will be my home?”

Walker and her roommate John Bratton said that they have tried to get answers from the city since Tuesday, what to do and where they should go.

“This community helps us and they earn a lot of recognition, it is not the city,” said Walker.

They tried to get answers for two days. Bratton said they received apartment complexes so as not to describe them.

“You want us to stop packing, moving, going here or there to do nothing by filling out forms and receiving a few leaves of paper with names of apartments that, if you call you, do not understand why you will publish our information because we have no units,” said Bratton.

The city rejected an interview on Thursday, but said that they turned the residents to the New Century Farmhouse to build temporary apartments in the salvation army in Olathe.

The residents were told that they should go to the farmhouse that lies opposite the apartments from the apartments in order to be shielded.

“We have the short -term coverage. We will need long -term apartments,” said Jenny Spurling, the Community Support Supervisor at Johnson County.

KCTV5 asked what they do to find the residents of permanent apartments.

“We constantly took place at this time and hope that there will be something in the shelter tomorrow to explore what is available,” said Spurling.

The city spokesman sent an explanation in which it is called. “The city of Gardner is grateful for the partnership with the Salvation Army and the 10-20 project for providing temporary protection for the residents of Aspen Place. New Century Fieldhouse is open today until 7 p.m. and will be reopened on Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., the apartments will need to visit the field house during these hours to complete a special apartment screening. Almost 20 people have already exploited this service.

The protection of the Salvation Army in the 420 E. Santa Fe Street in Olathe will open this evening at 6 p.m. The meals are provided by the Hope Market and the shower facilities will be available on site.

For those who cannot take part in the apartment investigation in the New Century Fieldhouse, the Salvation Army has confirmed that individuals can go directly to the shelter – no residents of Aspen Place are rejected. In addition to immediate protection, the project 10 to 20 will support residents in the identification and securing of long -term apartments as part of the ongoing support efforts.

The city of Gardner thanks the Hope market for the generous preparation of meals and the salvation army and the project 10-20 for their partnership in the support of our residents in this demanding time and to ensure that they stay overnight until they find permanent apartments. “
