Maeser Preps Kale Garner battles around the ball during the 3-2 victory of his team against St. Joesphs

The football coach of the Maeser Prep Academy, Dustin Simmons, preached to his players throughout the season, and his directive could not have paid off at a better time than during the 3-2 season of his team about St. Joseph in the semi-finals of the 2a state championships on Thursday.

With a little more than five minutes, Maesers Matthew Simmons remained with a faulty pass from St. Joseph and gave his team a 2-1 lead.

“We are talking about ending the piece all the time, and that was exactly the perfect example,” said Dustin Simmons, who by chance is Matthew's father. “The goalkeeper made a mistake for him, and Matty was there to just end the game.

“I only washed the goalkeeper, knew that he didn't take it with his hands and then spoiled him as much as possible,” described Matthew. “It worked and I was able to achieve this goal.”

The goal also acted as a redemption for Matthew and made a missed attempt on a wide -open network, just 15 minutes earlier. While such a Miss could have been weakening for some, Matthew kept a strong mentality until his shot certainly found the back of the network.

“It was certainly frustrating, but they just have to come by and go to the next game,” said Matthew. “So I did it and got the next goal and it felt great.”

Maeser did not let up from there, and Jack Stevenson added an unnecessary goal with a minute. Due to a late punishment in the penalty area, St. Joseph's lead was only 22 seconds, which made the gate an important value.

But that was exactly what Stevenson went through the lion's leading top scorer of the lion throughout the season.

“He is our senior captain and has scored big goals for us all season,” said Dustin Simmons. “It didn't seem to be a big one at the time, but it turned out to be a game winner.”

Tyler Reedy For the Lions for the Lions, the beneficiary of a great assist of the first wing player Denzel Sono-Koree started to score a goal for an early 1-0 lead in the 17th minute of the first half. On the piece, Sono-Koree made a successful penetration in the sidelines in order to be open again in front of the early score.

“He is just a newcomer and he is extremely fast,” said Dustin Simmons about Sono-Koree. “He is extremely dangerous in large fields. He is young and the rest of our other wings are also young, so hopefully we have a few exciting years ahead of us.”

In fact, Maeser kept the pressure in the first half and should probably have scored more than just a single goal when they went into the break with just 1-0.

St. Joseph's also had his share of opportunities and made some great runs at goals during the game. Finally, Alex Hernandez found the back of the network for the Jayhawks at almost 26 in the second half to bind things 1-1. In fact, the Jayhawks fought hard, which did not surprise Maeser, which had fought against the Ogden Privatsch School for some time and often came out at the wrong end.

“This is only the second time in school history that we could beat her,” said Dustin Simmons. “We are very happy to be at the level of your program because you are a great program.”

As is usually the case, the Lions were given great support from a fan base about the only current schoolchildren of the school.

“We had alumni here and then parents of Alumni, and this support is just so great,” said Simmons. “They support us and then we try to support everything everyone does at school and we were happy to win today.”

The Maeser PREP fans were consistently loud and encouraged their team with some clever chants, which everyone involved willingly noticed.

“We always have great support and helped them here today,” added Matthew Simmons.

Matthew Simmon's go-shead goal was also a moment when he and his father will not be forgotten so quickly.

“It's great,” said Dustin Simmons. “He played a big game in a big game, so I'm just so proud of him, as a father and as a coach.”

“It is the kind of goal that you always dream of when you grow up,” added Matthew's Simmons.

American Heritage achieved a 4-0 win against Grand

Maeser will take over the 4-0 victory of the Patriot's 4-0 victory against the American heritage on Thursday against the 4-0 victory of the Patriot.

The patriots did most of their work in the first half, with Alex Bay and John Brockbank scored goals in the eighth or 23rd minutes. Senior striker Cael Tillman added another goal, with a little more than five minutes remaining in the regulation.

The Tanner Brockbank for the patriots for the patriots was only one minute after Tillman's own goal for a 4-0 lead, which turned out to be a finale after an effective intersection of Tillman.

American Heritage and Maeser Prep played this season before, and the Lions achieved a 4-2 victory at the end of March.
