Driver, victim in Chatham, Illinois Crash, in which 3 children were killed, 1 teen identifier; Driver is not in custody, says the state police

The driver and the victims in an accident that Three children and a teenager killed in a post -school program in Downstate Chatham, Illinois,It was identified, said Illinois State Police.

The state police were called to Ynot Outdoors Summer and the school camp on Monday at 3:20 p.m. when a car fell against the east side of the building.

The car hit several people in front of the building before it was plowed through the building and met many inside. It finally broke through the opposite side of the building and stopped.

On Tuesday morning, the state police identified the driver as a 44-year-old Marianne Akers from Chatham, Illinois. The state police said it was currently not in custody because her examination of the crash will continue.

Three girls-two 7-year-old, an 8-year-old and an 18-year-old woman were killed. The forensic doctor of Sangamon County identified her as Ainsley Johnson (8) from Chatham; Rylee Britton, 18, from Springfield; Kathryn Corley, 7, by Chatham; and Alma Buhnerkempe, 7, from Chatham.

The forensic doctor said all four were declared dead at the crime scene. An initial examination of death showed that they all died of injuries suffered during the crash, said the forensic doctor.

Six other children were injured. Most were brought to the local hospitals by ambulance, but you had to take a Life Flight helicopter. A victim remained in a critical condition on Tuesday morning.

The state police said she did not believe that the crash was a targeted attack.

Illinoi's governor JB Pritzker said that he was “horrified and deeply sad” by the fatal incident. “Our community has lost a group of lighter and innocent young people who have their whole life in front of them,” wrote Pritzker in one post about X.

Chatham is about 12 miles south of Springfield in the Sangamon County. It should not be confused with the Chicago district in South Side in Chatham.

The Illinois State Police did not publish any further details on Tuesday morning or said whether the indictment against Akers was pending. The state police said it was not injured and brought to a local hospital for evaluation. Toxicological reports are still pending, the state police said on Tuesday morning.
