Sterling crimes in most categories in 2024, but murders, burglaries, tightened attacks on

May 8th – Steiler – A report that was presented on Monday, May 5, 2025, the city council of Sterling, shows that crime decreased in most categories compared to the previous year in 2024.

During his annual department report to Sterling's city council, the chief of police from Sterling, Alex Chavira, said that the research to the service decreased from 16,774 to 15,782 (6%), the more than 5.4%and crimes against property by 13.5%.

However, there were some important crime categories that increased the number of reports: categories in which an increase in murder was in 2024 compared to zero in 2023; Rape that rose from nine reports in 2023 to 14 in 2024; and severe attack at 25 in 2024 compared to 2123.

According to the report, the number of reports on stolen vehicles and burglaries also rose in 2024.

In addition, a decline in traffic accidents in the municipality was determined by 14.6%.

Chavira attributed the reduction in the “proactive police initiatives and strong partnerships of the Community” of the department.

In 2024 there were a total of 835 fees for adults, which was increased to an increase of 14% compared to 2023. The five most important arrest fees included:

The total number of emergency -911 calls decreased by 4% in 2024, 8,588 calls compared to 8,969 in 2023.

* 2.573 traffic/prescription quotes

* 28 SPD officials and 10 civilian employees. There are two officers per 1,000 inhabitants.
