Several injuries in the event of an accident with 2 new school buses for prairie school buses

Laport County, Ind. (Wndu) – The Sheriff's Office of the Laport County says that several people are injured after an accident this afternoon, including two new Buses of Prairie United School Corporation.

Officials say that the crash was taken shortly after 3:15 p.m. CDT at the intersection of the US 20 and Fail Road in Laporte County.

The police now tell Wndu 16 news that a box truck hit two new Prairie Mini buses that transported members of a sports team. Officials have not confirmed which sports team was involved in the crash, but the sports department of the Hobart High School confirmed that both their JV and the university baseball games against New Prairie were canceled this evening. Hobart says it should do the new Prairie JV team.

We also learn that another commercial vehicle was somehow involved in the crash.

Officials say that several people were injured and brought to hospitals for treatment. We also learned that at least one student was flown to a hospital with the helicopter.

According to officials, the first phases of the investigation are “criminal”, but according to reporters on site, this could change.

The intersection of US 20 and Fail Road was closed for a few hours after the crash, but was reopened at around 6:30 p.m. CDT.
