Ten years later: Families remember victims of the fiery I-235 aircraft crash

A decade after a fiery plane crash on the I-285 in Dekalb County killed the four people on board and stopped the traffic, the families still mourn.

“It is hard to believe that it was ten years ago,” said Matt Bailey, one of the brother's four aircraft accident. “This day was very hard. Our world seemed to turn upside down.”

Jackie Kulzer and her fiance Christopher Byrd were on the plane with Byrd's father and brother. The four died together with the couple's dog when the plane fell into the highway and opened on fire.

The background story:

The Piper Pa-32 was left Dekalb Peachtree Airport on the morning of May 8, 2015 when it collapsed on the I-285 and killed all four people on board.

The National Transportation Safety Board said that a mechanical problem prevented the level from reaching the height.

The investigators said that the pilot, the father of the victim Christopher Byrd, discussed the engine performance problems with at least two people before the start. According to the investigators, contamination was later found in the aircraft fuel distributor.

Timetable:

Shortly after the start, the transmission of the air traffic control captured the pilot and said: “I have problems climbing here, I think we'll be down here.”

Moments later confirmed a further transmission: “5802 Victor crashed on departure, right.”

Bailey said afterwards that his family received support.

“I'm still talking to people who often remember who remember exactly where they were when the accident happened,” he said. “[People offered to help] Here in the city and really all over the country after it has happened. “

What you say:

“You can never accept anything for granted,” said Bailey. “I mean, you know, every day you go through life, only worry about the things that really don't care. The life of people can end very quickly. And so those who love appreciate your family and appreciate the time you have on earth.”

What you can do:

Bailey and his wife Maggie launched the Jackelyn K. & Christopher F. Byrd Memorial scholarship for Ole Miss Students and collected tens of thousands of dollars:

They plan to start a second for the students of Christ, the King primary school in Buckhead, where Jackie was an alumna.
