Trump fires abrupt librarian of the Congress Carla Hayden

President Donald Trump has released Carla Hayden, the long -time head of the congress library, in one step that democratic legislators used as “insensitive” and “ignorant”.

Hayden described Hayden in a statement on Thursday evening as “well -versed, fundamentally and excellent”.

“Donald Trump's unjust decision to dismiss Dr. Hayden in an e -mail sent by a random political hack is a shame and the youngest in his constant efforts to ban books, to ban American history Whitwash history and to turn back the clock,” wrote Jeffries.

Hayden was officially informed about her termination in an e -mail from the personnel department of the White House shortly before 7 p.m. on Thursday.

The White House did not immediately answer a request for a comment and had not announced its distance in public from Thursday evening. A spokeswoman for the congress library confirmed: “The White House informed the librarian of the Congress Carla Hayden that she was relieved of her position.”

Statements by Congress Democrats who condemned the move.

“This is another example of the disturbing pattern of the president who removes committed public staff for no reason – probably filling out the position with one of his” friends “who is not qualified and does not care to protect America's legacy,” wrote House Appropriations Rangsa member Rosa Delauro.

“This step undermines the fundamental principles of our democracy and undermines the public's trust in our institutions. The Trump government has to provide a transparent explanation for this decision,” continued the Democrat of Connecticut.

Hayden was nominated by President Barack Obama to lead the congress library and sworn in for a 10-year term in September 2016. She was the first woman and the first African American to be able.

Her shooting takes place days after she had testified to the Senate's legislative branches before the subcommittee, and the committee for property management, in which the ranking member Joseph D. Morelle Trump's attacks on cultural institutions, including libraries and museums, noticed.

“If these efforts are successful, libraries will be forced to close their doors in practically all districts. Even the Smithsonian is under fire, absurdly accused of promoting improper and corrosive ideology, only for the presentation of historical facts that finds inappropriate funding,” said the New York Democrat. “It doesn't take much imagination to see the library of the congress next in the crosshairs, and I'm very concerned about it.”

The congress library is the largest library in the world with buildings on the Capitol campus. While it is a legislative branch, the President has the legal authority to appoint the head of the congress head of the Senate.

Morelle swore on Thursday to introduce laws that ensure that the congress librarian is appointed by the congress.

“Tonight President Trump released a patriotic public servant. The librarian of the congress, Dr. Carla Hayden, has spent her career to serve people – from children when reading reading to protect some of the most valuable treasures of our nation. She is an American heroine,” said Morelle in a statement.
