Missouri efforts to regulate video gambling machines are still playing

A Missouri Senate Committee is weighing the legislation that would regulate video gambling engines.

You can find the not licensed machines in convenience stores, trucks Stops, American Legion and VfW Halls, bars and other locations throughout the state.

Troy Stremming, a lobbyist from J & J Gaming, said on Thursday before the Senate's appropriation committee.

“Ordinary guardrails should be introduced to protect the public, and proper taxation should be available in order to generate appropriate tax revenue for the state of Missouri,” he told the committee. “HB 970 offers this way forward, a way to legality and enforcement, a way for small companies that Missouri can grow, and a way to consumer protection and taxation.”

Mike Winter, a lobbyist for Missouri's 13 casinos, said against the invoice.

“With all respect, this is the greatest expansion of gambling that would not have gone to a coordination of the people,” he said. “When you read the invoice, it limits the number of machines to eight machines per lottery retailer.

The Missouri House passed the invoice on April 9th. State Rep. Bill Hardwick, R-Dixon, is sponsored.

The greatest hurdle of the proposal can be the calendar, since in this year's legislative period there is only a week left.
