In 1943 Dorothea Barron joined the Royal Naval Service of women, where she worked as a signal with semaphore and morse code. She joined as soon as she turned 18.

“In order to join the wars, they had to be five feet three, but my mother has never been five feet three. What she did when she inserted an interview, cardboard clippings became her shoes to make her a bit bigger,” explained Dorothea's daughter Kati.

Dorothea met her husband Andrew after serving both during the war. Andrew was a navigator and married in 1948. Andrew in 2021 died sadly after more than 70 years.

Now Dorothea is still fighting to keep the memory of her fellow veterans alive.

In order to thank her for all her hard work, the winner of the traitors, Leanne Quigley, surprised Dorothea with her own military fleypast as a RAF Coningsby.
