A man from Wake County fights for his life on Thursday evening after the police officers from Raleigh announced that an impaired false driver hit him in his car days earlier.

The 22-year-old Kai Ritchie has undergone three operations in Wakemed in Raleigh for serious injuries. His mother, Stormy Schumann-Ritchie, told Wral News that he was on his way from working in Knightdale.

“He drove back to Cary on the I-40, and another car came to the I-40 in the wrong way and hit him,” she said.

According to his mother, Ritchie was met a day before his birthday.

“It is devastating. Absolutely devastating for me, his friends and family,” said Schumann-Ritch.

The police arrested Jose Lopez-Sanchez in connection with the crash.

He faces many charges, underneath the impairment, a serious violation of crimes by vehicle and ruthless driving.

“Don't drink and do not drive because you have the potential to kill someone and hurt someone, but not only this person, but so many others who are bound to this person,” said Schumann-Ritchie.

Kai's mother described him as a “loving, caring jokester” and “enthusiastic motorcycle lover”

Almost 100 members of an open motorcycle group took part in a rally in Cary to sharpen the awareness and money for the medical editions of Kai.

Josh Sepparicio, a friend and co -biker, said that the support of support means that Kai does not have to fight alone.

“We take care of him, we love him and everyone will send our best wishes to him,” said Serparicio.

A gofundme was created to support Kai's healing trip.

His mother said Wral News that he would probably be in the hospital between two and three weeks.
