Pope Leo XIV, born Robert Francis Prevost in Chicago, became the first American Pope on May 8, 2025. He was born on September 14, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois. Robert Francis Prevost is the son of a French father and an Italian mother. He followed a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at Villanova University and completed in 1977.

After completing his student studies, he joined the Order of St. Augustine, headed his first vows in 1978 and celebrated ceremonial vows in 1981.

He acquired a master of divinity from the Catholic theological Union in Chicago. Later he received both licensed and doctoral degrees in canonical law from the papal university of Saint Thomas Aquin in Rome.
