  • Through a leaked UI 8 o'clock firmware, we have discovered many new details about Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic.
  • The Galaxy Watch 8 was able to come in two sizes in a dumpling body.
  • The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic could also be available in a Squircle body, but possibly in a single size with a non-accented quick button and Galaxy Watch ultra-like vibrations.

Samsung is expected to start the Galaxy Watch 8 series next to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8, somewhere in the second quarter of 2025. Information about the Hardware from Smartwatch was surprisingly scarce, and we only know a few parts like the loading speed. Lecks before suggested that we could get Squircle symbols with the upcoming UI 8 o'clock update. However, this does not seem to be the only Squircle parts in the next few months, since the Galaxy Watch 8 and the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic could take on a Squircle shape itself, similar to the Galaxy Watch Ultra. The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic could still get ultra -like functions such as a quick button and stronger vibrations.

We found a few notes in the One UI 8 firmware for the unpublished Galaxy Watch 8 Classic (SM-L505). One of the animation files determines the code names for the upcoming watches, whereby “Fresh8” is the Galaxy Watch 8 and “Wise8” as a Galaxy Watch 8 Classic. So far we have not been able to see any code names for a new Galaxy Watch Ultra, whereby only “Projectx2” was expelled for the Galaxy Watch Ultra, which was previously started.

The animation files give us a look at what these devices could look like:

From the look it seems that Samsung rejects the circular shape of the Galaxy Watch 8 series. Instead, the company could accept a squircle body design while maintaining the rounded screen, similar to what we see on the current Galaxy Watch Ultra.

In addition, the Galaxy Watch 8 was able to keep two buttons on the side. However, Samsung could add a quick button to the Galaxy Watch Classic and bring its button -setup closer to the Galaxy Watch Ultra. The animation files do not show orange highlight for the fast button of the Watch 8 Classic while showing it for the Galaxy Watch Ultra.

If you look closely, you can also identify subtle differences in the button design about the three wearables and determine the difference in the frame sizes across the three watches. We cannot see from the graphic whether the Watch 8 Classic gets rotating lunettes.

Here is another intro video from the firmware that shows the Squircle design of the Galaxy Watch 8:

Although these files do not seem to be a placeholder, we cannot rule it out.

What design would you prefer for the Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic?

Other code bits in the firmware confirm the presence of the quick button. In the following snippet, both “Projectx2” and “Wise8” should be fast button.

When we return to the regular Galaxy Watch 8, we discovered the mentions of two sizes for it:

  • Fresh8_s-SM-L32
  • Fresh8_L-SM-L33
  • Wise8-SM-L50

Here S and L probably refer to small and large, although they do not indicate the exact housing size. We could not see any dimensioning information for the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic. This does not mean that the Watch 8 Classic is only available in size, although this could be possible.

Finally, we found code that points out that the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic can receive the extended vibration pattern support as well as the Galaxy Watch Ultra. Many people loved the stronger vibrations of Galaxy Watch Ultra, so these are good news for others who want to build up an upgrade.

What do you think about the upcoming Squircle design of Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 8 Classic based on these animation files? Let us know more in the comments below!
