The qualified diver is pulled by strong current, drown to death while looking for a lost GoPro camera

A 30-year-old Chinese diver called Zhang Xiaohan drowned when diving in Indonesia. She was on a tour near Kakaban Island with 12 guests and 3 guidelines.

The island also has the world's largest jellyee and has attracted many visitors in recent years.

Xiaohan, who drowned in Indonesia during diving, is said to be an experienced diver with a divemaster certificate, according to the South China Morning Post.

A divemaster certificate is a professional qualification for diving divers. This allows someone to lead certified divers, support trainers and monitor diving activities.

Divers can lead and support pregnant, but cannot teach complete diving courses without becoming a trainer.

During the dive, she lost her GoPro camera and tried to return to call her down. A guide warned her not to do this. But she went against the proposal, added SCMP.

The group reached near the surface after 30 meters deep. Zhang did not return and the leaders could not find them.

A search team later found her body at a depth of 87 meters. It is assumed that it was pulled by a strong current. Her death caused a lot of sadness and discussion in Chinese social media.

The diver was taken to the hospital for a post-mortem. The authorities are now investigating the case. Many are wondering whether more security measures should be taken by diving travel operators.

Even qualified divers can underestimate the dangers of nature according to online users. A relative said that Zhang's family in Zhejiang, China, is broken heart.

Social media reactions

People online have emphasized that life is more valuable than any camera and recommended never to dive deeply. The dive site near Kakaban Island is known for its breathtaking underwater landscape and is very popular with tourists.

A user wrote: “No camera or film material is as important as your life.”

“A tip for all divers, never go deep into the sea without society,” SCMP quoted another as a reaction.
