Trump threatens more sanctions against Russia if it does not agree to a longer ceasefire

President Trump said that the United States would impose Russia sanctions if they did not accept a longer ceasefire in their war against Ukraine and wrote to President Volodymyr Zelensky from Ukraine on social media after a call on Thursday.

The remark was another swivel of the administration, which approached the positions of Ukraine in ceasefire talks, after two months of concessions to Russia, including the widening of diplomatic relationships and the coordination against UN Resolution, Moscow sentenced to war.

During the talks in Saudi Arabia in March, the Trump government proposed a 30-day ceasefire to enable peace negotiations. Ukraine accepted the idea, but instead Russia pushed to negotiate the conditions for an agreement before accepting an armistice.

After a meeting in the Vatican city with Mr. Zelensky on the edge of Pope Francis's funeral last month. Mr. Trump threatened Russia with sanctions when it was characterized by the negotiations. But after his call with Mr. Zelensky, his social media post was his clearest statement that he connected additional US sanctions against Russia with the assumption of a 30-day ceasefire for negotiations.

“If the ceasefire is not respected, the USA and its partners will impose further sanctions,” wrote Trump in the post office, which was made about social social networking via the social networking site.

The United States, wrote Mr. Trump: “Ideally, demands a 30-day armistice.”

Mr. Zelensky's office published an advertisement of the call with Mr. Trump and said that the two guides had congratulated each other in Europe at the end of the Second World War. The call also says that “President Trump has confirmed that he ended this war and is ready to help.”
