The death series inmate suffered a “botched” execution after the method was selected only five times in 50 years – crimes

An autopsy report about a death series, which became the fifth person who was executed in 50 years by the shot of the squad, showed that he may have suffered a longer death.

The execution via the shooting squad is controversial in the USA and controversial in the states of Idaho, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Utah.

The rarely used method made headlines at the beginning of the year, after the convicted killer Brad Sigmon was able to die with this method in March, with the reporters later giving his death a minute for minute.

After the death of Sigmon, the 42-year-old Mikal Mahdi was executed according to this method in the state of South Carolina.

He was sentenced to death in 2006 after he was convicted of various murders, including the murder of the non -servant police officer James Myers.

Mahdi was killed on April 11, 2025 by shooting the squad.

Since then, however, an autopsy report has shown that his execution may have been botched up, which means that he experienced “longer suffering” in the last moments of his life.

According to Records published by Mailonline, Mahdi's autopsy suggests that his death does not follow the protocol. In documents submitted by Mahdi's Legal Team, his lawyers show that they believe that he was shot lower than expected, the balls miss his heart and instead beat directly above his stomach.

His team says that this is supported by the fact that only two different ball holes were found on his upper body, although each of the three handles had living rounds in their gun.

In the meantime, South Carolina's Department of Corrections has stated that two of the balls had entered the body at the same place – an assertion that Mahdi's team team denies.

In a typical execution of shooting qualities, it is expected that the convicts will succumb to their wounds within 10 to 15 seconds after contact with the heart. However, Mahdi's team claims that his customer is only declared dead four minutes after the shot.

Mahdi's lawyer David Weiss announced his reaction to the autopsy results that it corresponded to what he saw and heard.

“The autopsy confirms what I saw and heard,” said Weiss in a written explanation.

'Mikal suffered a painful death. We don't know what went wrong, but nothing about his execution was human.

“The effects are terrible for everyone who is exposed to the same decision as Mikal. South Carolina's refusal to recognize their failures with executions cannot be continued.”

The response to the allegations that Mahdi's department for corrections is “botched” by South Carolina told the guardian that they had “strongly rejected” Mahdi lawyers and claimed that all “three weapons were fired at the same time and that no fragments were found in the room”.

The statement added that all three balls had beaten Mahdi's heart before they had hit other organs.
