Neuralink patient with as edited and tells Video only with his brain in historical historical

In a new progress for BCI technology (Brain Computer Interface), Brad Smith, the first non-verbal patient who received neuralinks brain implant, showed how he only edited and told video material with his brain signals.

Smith currently lives with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects voluntary muscle control. In the video published on YouTube last month, he showed how he is based on Neuralink for all forms of communication.

Smith is now the third person in the world, the Elon Musks Neuralink brain chip and the first one received. In January, Musk apparently confirmed the participation of Smith in Neuralink attempts in a posting in his social media platform X and said at the time: “We have … now implanted three people with neuralinks and they all work well.”

Over the years, Smith has lost, speak and move any ability. Before he regained neuralinks brain interface chip, he relied on the eye-gauze technology, which mainly helped him to decorate the lighting in his house.

“It took years before I came here and I still break down and cry” Core memory. “It is really nice to have a purpose greater than me. I am very happy to serve others with this work in the future.”

About the size of five stacked quarters with more than 1,000 electrodes, the brain implant device was used in Smith's engine cortex, which works by conveying neuronal signals in connection with specific movement intentions.

Smith says that instead of imagining himself, moving his hands, navigating his thoughts of tongue movements and jaw bales and clicking on a mouse pointer on his computer. This type of memory control enables him to completely edit his YouTube videos through his mind, and enables Smith to become the first person in history, only edited the video with the help of a brain computer interface.

The video went one step further and also contained the story in Smith's own voice, which was reacted to with AI with earlier recordings.

“It took years until I came here. Sometimes I still cry. But I have the feeling that I finally have a purpose more than I have. I hope that will help others in the future,” says Smith in the YouTube video.

In a separate clip by Vance, Musk called Smith during a visit to the Neuralink team. “I hope this is a player for you and your family,” said Musk. Smith reacted through his computer -generated voice and said: “I look forward to getting it in my head and hearing on the way.”

With the implant, Smith can now communicate under different lighting conditions, play games like Mario Kart with his children and communicate digitally with others that has never been possible.

Neuralink, which had previously tested his device for monkeys, implanted his first human chip in January 2024. Noland Arbaugh, a quetroplegic, was the first patient and listened to the technology in a similar way with the restoration of a feeling of independence and connection. At the same time, they learned Japanese and newly learning mathematics with “The Link”.

In 2024, Neuralink announced that Arbaugh experienced medical complications, including the withdrawal of some threads that connected the implant with his brain. The company replied to these claims and said that the chip's algorithm had been addressed and reported that the link had been returned to the proper work code.

In the meantime, Neuralink has also been a growing examination for allegations of cruelty to animals with the deaths of monkeys that attracted widespread attention last year.

In contrast, Smith's story is more than just an Edge Science performance: It is a profound look at how BCI technology SSOOO could help to revolve people around the world that suffer severe physical disabilities.
