Death becomes its partners with local artists to create works inspired by the show

The Broadway production of Death becomes her, has a partnership with a curated group of contemporary NYC artists for a brand new series “Artist on Artists”, which aims to create new original works that are inspired by the mixture of macabre comedy, visual effects and designs by the show. The death of the artist is worked with her with which Gail Anderson, Jade Purple Brown, Marcos Chin, Quentin Jones and Jessica Walsh.

The series began with a trip for the artists to the Lunt Fontante Theater to see how a performance of death becomes her. From there, every artist, with selected members of the cast and creative team, sat down for intimate conversations and a gap to art that brought death to life. Side by side they examined the common language of creativity, how the witness of great stagecraft can ignite something fresh and why artists are constantly inspiring each other to cross boundaries. After the conversations, the visual artists returned to their studios to create completely new works that reflect death through their own unique lens.

The five original works of art inspired by death will be unveiled online and personally on the advertising table on the northwestern corner of 51st Street and 7th Avenue in the heart of the New York theater district.

Meet the artists

Gail Anderson is a designer, writer, educator and chairman of BFA Design and BFA advertising at the School of Visual Arts. Gail is an AIGA medalist and recipient of the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian National Design Award for lifelong services and a former member of the Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee for the USPostdienst.

Jade Purple Brown is a visual artist and illustrator who lives in New York City. Their work uses strong figures, lively colors and optimism messages to create new, dynamic worlds of individuality and strengthening. Her artistic practice includes illustration, design and creative management and has attracted a wide range of global customers.

Marcos Chin is an award-winning illustrator whose work as surface, textile and wall designs, book and CD covers, advertisements, fashion catalogs and magazines have been published. He worked with companies such as Starbucks, Apple, Kiehls, Honda, Neiman Marcus, Time, Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated and the New York Times.

Quentin Jones is a British filmmaker, artist and photographer based in New York with a studio in Brooklyn. Since then, she has undergone her unique Fine art position in the world of fashion film and photography. Quentin largely works in fashion and beauty, but also in Tech and the Arts.

Jessica Walsh is an American designer, art director, illustrator and educator. She was a partner of the Sagmeister & Walsh design studio and founder of the Creative Agency & Walsh. & Walsh is one of the .1% of women's creative agencies. She taught at the School of Visual Arts.
