The public prosecutor's shootout, who was killed with a man out of the knife, was justified

Saginaw, me. (WNEM) – The public prosecutor's office of the Saginaw district decided a shootout of the officials who killed a man who was justified in March.

On March 30, 2025, three Saginaw police officers responded to two 911 calls about a 33-year-old man. The first reported a domestic disorder in a house. The second reported that the man was now armed with a knife and he intended that police officers had him kill him.

When the police reacted to the scene in the Delaware Street near the State Street, the public prosecutor said that the man was in his sweatshirt with his right hand.

The police asked the man to raise his hands, but instead of doing this, he went further closer to the officials with his right hand in his pocket, said the public prosecutor.

A taser was used by one of the officials when the man continued to follow instructions, but he did not seem to influence the man, the public prosecutor said.

The man then ran away from the police and the officials began to follow him. The public prosecutor said during the chase, the man suddenly turned and began to accuse one of the officials with a knife.

The public prosecutor said when he did not drop the knife, two of the three officials shot the man. The man was taken to a local hospital in which he died of his injuries.

The Saginaw police authority asked the Michigan State Police to examine the incident. When family members were interviewed, they told the investigators that the man had suffered from mental illnesses and had a history of physical and verbal abuse towards another family member.

The investigators also discovered that the man put the desire to die on the day of the shootout and made the police shoot him.

The public prosecutor said that the death of the man was tragic after testimonies, video and audio recordings were checked, the actions of the civil servants were justified and agreed with the preservation of self and others.
