Newport Swans are not killed with air rifle, the police say, the police say

Two swans found dead by a channel drag path were not killed with an air rifle, as was originally assumed, the police said.

Instead, the police from West Mercia said that she seemed to be killed by another animal.

The birds were found in Victoria Park, Newport, Shropshire in early May.

Eleven eggs that were left behind by the nesting birds have now been looked after in the Cuan Wildlife Rescue in many Wenlock and have started to slip.

Last week the troop described the attack on the two swans as “illegal murder” and said: “We believe that both swans were shot with an air rifle at some point over April 30 to May 1st.”

But on Friday a spokesman said: “After further inquiries and advice from animal experts, we can confirm that the swans were killed by another animal and that no criminal activities are involved.”

After an emergency call, Cuan Wildlife Rescue was able to buy a large incubator and hoped that all 11 eggs would hatch.
